Psoriasis is a chronic, non-contagious disease characterised by thick, red, silvery, scaled patches of skin.

 

Psoriasis affects both sexes equally and can develop at any time.  However, it is most common in fair-skinned people.

Psoriasis causes that skin cells grow too quickly and build up into hard and itchy patches usually located on the arms, back, chest, nails, elbows, legs, folds between the buttocks, and scalp.

This disease is considered mild if it only affects 5% orless of the surface of the body, moderate if the skin involved are between 5-30% and severe if psoriasis affects more than 30% of the body surface.

 

Causes & Symptoms

The cause of psoriasis is unknown, but it appears to be caused by the combined action of multiple disease genes, problems with the metabolism of amino-acids or the immune system.

Factors that increase the risk of developing psoriasis include:

  • Heredity
  • Stress
  • Exposure to cold temperatures
  • Injury, illness, or infection of the skin
  • Use of certain medicines

Symptoms of psoriasis are:

  • Red and irritated skin
  • Itching
  • Bright silvery scales
  • Lesions from minute papules to sheets covered large parts of the body.

Home Remedy for Psoriasis #  1 Use the thickest and greenest outer cabbage leaves inthe form of compresses. For that purpose, wash the leaves in warm water and dried with a towel.  Then apply smoothly to the affected part in an overlapping manner. In order to secure these leaves, apply a pad of soft wooden cloth over the compress with an elastic bandage.

Avoid animal products high in saturated and unsaturated fats, such as fried foods, dairy products, and fatty meats that promote inflammation.

Drink plenty of water (at least eight glasses) each day.

Apply, after bathing. emollients such as nonirritating body oil, vegetable shortening or petroleum jelly to help the skin retainwater.

Take regular doses of intense sun but be careful of the sunburn and skin cancer.

Care gently the skin and avoid injure with tightshoes, watchbands, dull razors, and harsh chemicals
