When heart pumps the blood into the large arteries, creates a pressure called blood pressure which
is essential to keep the blood circulating in the body. However, when the pressure becomes too high, it results
in hypertension

hypertension have a higher risk for heart
attack, arteriosclerosis, blindness, stroke and kidney damage
Blood pressure when the heart beats is called systolicpressure and when the heart is at rest is called diastolic pressure.
When bloodpressure is measured (with the instrument called sphygmomanometer in
millimeters of mercury), the systolic pressure is stated first and the
diastolic pressure second.
The blood pressure level considered normal is between
120/70 and 140 /90. Blood pressure between 140/90 and 160/95 is in border line
area. From 160/96 to 180/114, it is considered as moderate hypertension, while
180/115 and upward is severe.
