Oily
hair, as anyone who has it will attest, may be the most diíRcult to keep in line.

You wash it in the morning and by the afternoon
it needs to be washed again. Because of the highly productive oil glands in
their scalps, people with oily hair need a shampoo
that will accomplish two things: remove excess oil from hair shafts and leave the scalp toned and squeaky
clean. Following are some natural products that can help.
Note: Theserecipes produce a shampoo that feels thinner than commercial shampoos but that
works just as well. For a thicker feel, just add more soap

Home remedy #1 Sage
Shampoo
Sage is a wonderfully aromaticastringent for oily hair. It not only iifts oil from the hair follicles, it
also tightens the pores of the scalp, helping to
stem the flow of oil from the skin to the hair. As a bonus, sage helps cleanse the scalp of dandruff. Folklore
praises sage as a panacea of sorts: good for strengthen-ing the mind as well as the muscles. While it probably doesn't do that, it is good for your hair.
Ingredients
3/4 cup water
2 tablespoons dried sage
8
tablespoons pure soap flakes (or ^2 cup liquid soap for
sensitive skin)
Bring water to boil. Remove from
stove and pour into mixing bowl. Add sage. Allow
to sit for ten to fifteen minutes. Strain into another mixing bowl. Add soap
flakes. Mix well. Allow to sit until mixture thickens. Pour into clean plástic
bottle, such as shampoo or conditioner bottle.
Storage and life span: Store in a
cool, dark place. Will last for twelve to sixteen
weeks.
Home remedy #2 Lemon-RumShampoo
Rum is both a fine tropical drinkand a superb tonic for oily hair. Amber or white,
rum Iifts dirt and oil from the hair and scalp,
leaving them feeling and smelling clean. Lemon cuts through
built-up dirt and grime. Together, these two potent ingredients
leave even the oiliest of hair clean, fresh, and healthy.
Ingredients
3/4 cup water
2 lemon rind, coarsely grated
10 tablespoons puré soap flakes
(or 2/3 cup liquid soap for sensitive skin) ^8 cup white or amber rum
Bring water to boil. Remove from
stove and pour into mixing bowl. Add lemon rind.
Allow to sit for ten to fifteen minutes. Strain into another mixing bowl. Add soap flakes and rum. Mix well. Allow to sit until mixture thickens. Pour into clean plástic bottle, such as shampoo or conditioner bottle. Shake well before
using.
